~ WISE MIND COLLECTIVE CO-FOUNDER & THERAPIST

I am a registered social worker with a passion for mental health and wellness. In my practice I work effectively with children, adolescents, adults and families. My journey as a therapist evolved in community, crisis and mental health settings and I have a specialized interest in the areas of anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviours, parent-child relationships, life-transitions, trauma, stress management and gender-affirming care. I have obtained diverse training and experience and use evidence-based treatment, to support individuals in managing life's challenges.

We are not designed to remain the same, but with supportive guidance, we are given the space needed to improve and create positive change. During your journey towards healing and self-discovery, I am committed to creating a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance where you feel seen, heard and valued. A connection that is intended to enhance the strengths, skills and knowledge that already exists within you.

~ WISE MIND COLLECTIVE CO-FOUNDER & THERAPIST

Children's experiences of counselling can set the tone for their willingness to reach out for help throughout their life. I work hard to make each young person's experience of therapy as engaging and positive as possible. As a certified play therapist and experienced mental health practitioner, I offer a creative, yet purposeful approach to addressing your child or teen's presenting difficulties. I bring established skill sets in the areas of anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioural challenges, trauma, grief and loss, coping effectively with stress, the parent-child relationship, separation and divorce, and nurturing blended families. I combine evidenced-based and expressive treatment models to help young people reach their optimal growth and development.

In my counselling space you will find warmth, acceptance and collaboration. I value working in partnership with children and the people who care for them; to enhance the natural strengths of each young person and the family system. Non-judgmental caregiver support is also offered.

I’m a highly sensitive therapist specializing in working with highly sensitive people. Until I discovered I was more sensitive, I spent much of my life feeling like there was something wrong with me. In my work, I use a combination of somatic work, narrative therapy, and intuition to help the people I work with to experience deep healing. I’m also a mom to three great teens and two lovely dogs.

You are on an important and beautiful journey. It is a courageous and vulnerable thing—to look at your life, recognize the challenges, and reach out for support. It is also evidence of the goodness, wisdom and strength inside of you—the part of you that keeps reaching towards health and wholeness, determined to find ways to get there. I’m glad you are here. It would be an honour to support you on this journey. Whether you are navigating stress, anxiety, depression, grief, burnout or healing from past trauma, Art Therapy is an effective way to process experiences, connect with your emotions and inner knowing, to find insight, clarity and direction. The Art Therapy process combines visual expression with thoughtful reflection to process and heal, all the while developing your strengths, tools and life skills. And you don’t have to feel like you have any particular ‘artistic ability’!

I have experience supporting adults, adolescents and children through the above-mentioned challenges. Additionally, I bring a unique perspective shaped by an appreciation for diverse cultures, spiritual journeys and life transitions. Whether you're deconstructing, recovering from spiritual trauma, or seeking to navigate life's complexities, I would love to support you on your journey. Please feel free to reach out and book a free virtual consultation to see if we might be a good fit.

Marnie Rusen (she/her), JD, MSW RSW

~ THERAPIST

I am passionate about helping people reduce their emotional or physical suffering and work through difficulties that are keeping them stuck or unhappy in their lives. I bring a unique perspective and skillset to my work having practiced as a lawyer for several years before changing paths to become a therapist. I work with individuals and couples (18+) experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, addictions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, grief and loss and major transitions.

While my approaches vary, I lean towards a psychodynamic orientation (to help people gain insight into how their past relationships and experiences inform their present ones) as well as techniques that are mind-body based, emotion-focused and specialized for those who have histories of trauma or chronic pain. My specialized trainings include Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT).

I offer a collaborative, compassionate and warm space where everyone is welcome. I would be happy to have an initial conversation with you to see if we’re a good fit.

~ THERAPIST

I am a Registered Psychologist with a strong passion for supporting individuals (18+) who struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of low self-worth, and developmental and sexual violence trauma.  As a 1.5-generation Korean-Canadian psychologist with many intersecting identities, I also deeply empathize with the experiences of immigrant, racialized, and LGBTQ+ communities, and work with many of the unique personal and systemic challenges faced by them. My work is guided through a feminist, intersectional, and trauma-informed lens that is mindful of your specific history and needs.

As a somatic (Hakomi) & compassion-focused therapist, I understand that while knowing the logic behind our struggle can help us immensely, we cannot always “think” our problems away. Through a purposeful study of body, emotions, and thoughts in the present moment, you will be supported in deeply understanding yourself, recognizing and meeting your needs, and embodying healing and change, all with more self-compassion and less self-criticism. You and your experiences and agency will be seen and honoured, and I meet you as another human being with humour, knowledge, and warm acceptance.  Please feel free to book a 20-minute free phone or video consultation through my email or my website.
